Fundraiser Concert Report
posted by AT on 06.14.03

If you weren't there for last night's revisions fundraiser concert at The Uptown Bar & Grill, you missed a good one. I coordinated many of the details for our first-ever public event, and I was a little — actually a lot — nervous all the way up to the start of the concert.

There was a positive buzz inside The Uptown from the very beginning. The bands all played extremely well and emitted tons of energy. Terramara kicked things off with a set that served as an excellent start to the show. They left a few minutes at the end to allow for an AT/DT jam on the song "Firefighter." Elephants Gerald didn't sound one bit like they hadn't played a show in over six months; their set was as driven and fun as ever. Panda--the newest addition to the revisions soundtrack--was the surprise hit of the evening. On top of being Scott's favorite performance, they delivered a tight show that had us all quite pleased they agreed to be on the soundtrack. And the headliners, Sound & Fury, offered up a set that may very well have been the loudest thing The Uptown has ever heard. Terramara drummer (and revisions cast member) Dave Thomas commented as he walked to the back of the bar: "I had to come stand back here because that's almost just too much rock." (I could fill up fifteen pages with all the hilarious quotations I got from band members last night.)

The highlight of the whole day for me actually occurred a couple hours before we even got to The Uptown. I arrived at James' apartment shortly after 6:00 to meet up with the rest of the gang. Making a surprise appearance from the back room was none other than Eric — our SPF comrade now living in Chicago. He and his girlfriend Dani drove up just for the concert (with some help from Abner), and I was the only who didn't know they were coming. The entire SPF staff was together for the show, and that was very cool.

A lot of people deserve thanks for making this thing a success. It's quite hard to put them in any kind of an order (and I sincerely hope I'm not leaving anyone out), so here they are in no particular order. For their work, time, and energy, we would like to thank: All of the bands — Terramara, Elephants Gerald, Panda, and Sound & Fury — thanks for such awesome performances you guys; everyone at The Uptown Bar & Grill — you couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating; everyone who came out to the show — you've helped revisions out tremendously, and we hope you had a great time; and all the shops, stores, publications, radio and TV stations, and people who helped us spread the word.

I'd also like to extend a personal thank-you to my fellow SPF producers: James, Eric, Scott, Abner, and Farrah. Everyone put in a lot of work to make the revisions fundraiser concert a success; it was indeed a reaffirmation of the great things that accompany SPF and working with you all.

Now it's time for us to get back to the task at hand: revisions. We are about to begin editing, and I'm sure there'll be more than few things to report once it all gets underway.

Thanks again to everyone.
