My Defense posted by James on 10.27.03
Last week someone with intimate knowledge of revisions asked me why I was taking so long to finish his film. The person cited a couple reasons for voicing concern. Most notably: We had been working on the project for well over a year, everything had been shot, and people were asking about it.
I understand how slow the process must seem to those of you on the outside. I'll I can say is that we're not stopping, giving up, packing in, or quitting. The slow moving can be chalked up to our need to have this thing look and sound just how we want it. I am especially to blame for most of the re-shoots and slow downs of late, but I won't apologize for it. I have a particular perception on how this film will turn out and I can't cut those ideas short by slapping together a film I won't watch.
Above and beyond my requirements, I need to make sure the film reflects the hard work and numerous talents of everyone else associated with the project. Actors, musicians, designers, and volunteers have put much of their own time and effort (= money) into this so I'll be working just as hard to make the end product just as good. Good things take time. The footage is being edited. People asking about means that people want to see it. So that is my defense. Rant over. As this steamroller moves forward, keep checking back for news and glimpses at the film.
