Two Reasons, Lots of Waiting posted by AT on 12.23.05
Okay, folks... We at SPF have never been as charged up about revisions as we are now. This film, from conception to edit, has been four years in the making. Why? There are many reasons, but the most obvious two are: 1) We unanimously agreed from Moment One there would be no compromises. 2) None of us had a clue the immense amount of work a "no compromises" agreement would actually entail. We laid out plans for the ideal, and we have since relentlessly pursued the ideal.
The current version of the edit is sitting at around one-hundred minutes, and it nearly looks like what the final edit will be. For a good few months now audio has been our primary focus--final music placement, dialogue fix-its and ADR, Foley, and environments. You know who holds the majority of the responsibility for all of the aforementioned? Me. The guy with the recording studio. The same guy who, approximately four years ago, said: "Sure, James. Working on the film would be a lot of fun. You say it will only take about six months? That sounds great."
We all make some underestimations from time to time.
Last weekend James, Scott, and I ventured down to Soliton Recording Studios for a lockout weekend of audio work. There was so much to be done that we would literally start one task and instantly become distracted by another that came up along the way. But we stabbed away at needs all weekend long and got a much clearer idea of what remains. For the time being I am processing all of the work we did and getting it ready for insertion in the film. And tonight I will begin composing and recording the original score; most of revisions features music from Minnesota-based bands, but about twenty minutes will contain music written exclusively for each respective sequence. And if all goes well, the score, in its entirety, will be completed in no more than ten days.
We are just itching to start releasing the list of soundtrack contributors! We will not, however, release any band names until final legal approval has cleared, so watch for those announcements to come in smaller groupings via our email newsletter. I'll send the first one out with some brief info on each of the contributing artists starting next week. So if you haven't already singed up for the list, scroll right up to the top of this page and input your email address in the signup box.
You've waited a very long time for revisions, and it is indeed coming soon.
