With confidence I can say we are in the final push to complete revisions. Twice this week James and I met to work on final bits of the audio mix. This has been an ongoing process that has started and stopped to accommodate other creative projects, weddings, births, deaths, and several other typical life happenings. We got a major boost a couple of months ago when James equipped me with an iMac, software, and the revisions edit. A frustrating factor for us prior was our lack of complementing schedules. By acquiring the "mobile" editing suite and setting it up in tandem with my own home audio studio, I was able to complete most of the time-consuming, meticulous, and tedious mix work that was taking its sweet time getting done. We are now just tweaking, refining, and... well, revising the audio mix and edit, and within weeks it will head out for mastering (the final stage).
For all the heat we've taken--from others but also from ourselves--for the extremely extended process that has been post-production on revisions, we have never given up on seeing it through to fruition. And I'm happy to say we also haven't compromised any of what we set out to do. In hindsight there's about a thousand things we could/should have done differently. But revisions was and is our guinea pig, our experiment, our means by which we learned the finer points of this craft. All the experience and knowledge we collected will serve us well on future projects (which are in fact scheduled to begin soon).
We found an empty spot that called for score while editing Friday night. Though I thought I completed music a long time ago, this weekend I will set out to record a very short piece for the vacancy. I'm excited to put a small bit of 2008 on the revisions film!
See you soon.
